ChinaFAQs Experts Mark Levine and Lynn Price to Serve as Lead Authors for Next IPCC Report
China Energy Group members Mark Levine and Lynn Price have been invited to serve as Lead Authors for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC’s) Fifth Assessment Report. Dr. Levine will serve on the Buildings chapter and Ms. Price will serve on the Industry chapter of the Working Group III report on Mitigation of Climate Change.
The invitation letter explains that: “The IPCC is the leading body for the assessment of climate change to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic consequences. Thousands of scientists from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis. Because of its scientific and intergovernmental nature, the IPCC embodies a unique opportunity to provide rigorous and balanced scientific information to decision makers. By endorsing the IPCC reports, governments acknowledge the authority of their scientific content. In 2007 the IPCC was honored – together with Al Gore – with the Nobel Peace Prize.” Work on AR4 will begin one year from now and the report is expected to be finalized in April 2014.
