Robert Kapp
For ten years, Robert Kapp was president of the U.S.-China Business Council (USCBC), the preeminent organization of American companies involved in U.S.-China investment and trade. As leader of the USCBC, he engaged extensively with U.S. and Chinese government leaders and key agencies on a wide range of policy issues, including questions of strong interest on Capitol Hill.
Since 2004, he has been principal of Robert A. Kapp and Associates, a business consulting firm, and serves as Senior China Advisor to K&L Gates, the international law firm. He is chair of the China Committee of the Pacific Council on International Policy, and a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kapp served on the China faculties of Rice University and the University of Washington, and headed two organizations, the Washington State China Relations Council (1979-87) and the Washington Council on International Trade (1987-94). He has frequently testified before Congress, enjoys a wide acquaintance network and strong reputation in China, and contributes to print and broadcast media coverage of U.S.-China affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in modern Chinese history from Yale.
